It is a very challenging time we are in and so we wanted to write and provide a perspective on our situation and insights into ways that we can ground and energize ourselves now.
This is an unprecedented situation in our lifetime, where the Coronavirus is not in far away China or somewhere in Africa, but on our doorstep, spreading in the Western world as well. When the panic here began, like elsewhere, we realized how futile that energy is, however human. How fear itself weakens all of us and our natural immunity to ward off the virus and heal. How fear makes us hoard on food and other products resulting in a dire loss of perspective as to what we are facing, when we actually need to support people who really are at risk at this time. And importantly, how fear blinds us from being present in the now, when presence itself is our medicine.
It is incredible, in a way, how the Coronavirus has stopped the world. Perhaps it is nature teaching us to be humble. It has made us realize how we are all vulnerable and human, irregardless of nationality or wealth, race or ethnicity, gender or sexuality. How perhaps it is a profound opportunity now to hold and work with compassion and build connection even if in isolation. To feel within is to connect. To listen within is to connect. To work with your intuition and all forms of knowing that have guided your life until now, is to connect. To connect to an inner grounding and trust which can wisely guide you now and at the same time provide the foundation to healing.
Energy, not money, is the currency now. Working with energy from within and holding a space for others to heal is very powerful, much like going out into the world and creating your life. “Energy” here and now is not esoteric and hard to grasp. Rather, it can be creatively imagined, curiously worked with and tangibly summoned within your body and mind. Energy too needs to be contagious at this time.
Having worked with healing for many years, it is very apparent to us how presence increases our strength and therefore our immunity. It stems from the practice of meditation, again defined very broadly. To sit and learn to witness your emotions builds presence. To connect to the thought or imagined perception that there is a spirit within you which inhabits the body and coaxes the mind, builds presence. To hold love for people you know, for people who have passed on, for ancestors, builds presence. To widen our bandwidth of what is meaningful for me builds presence. To discover trust within yourself now builds presence.
We need to now create a culture of healing and compassion, both within and around us. It has to be as relentless as the virus and the culture of fear surrounding us. The isolation and social distancing themselves have to be seen as a part of that culture in a way, rather than being preposterous and making us loose our humanity. We have to work together as a community, as a larger humanity, across differences. It is also a time that is humbling to us here in the “first world” since we cannot anymore experience the globe freely. It is a moment to discover that freedom from within. We must trust that our deeper inner work in isolation resonates into the world.
So, we encourage you to spend time everyday to sit in your meditation space and witness all your emotions. Allow this act of self-observation help you become more present and grounded, allowing space for all your feelings. It is all understandable and real now! Don’t judge yourself or get on the roller coaster of fear that abounds. Try to watch your breath and feel the earth beneath you and the horizon of healing, and witness the fear subside. Then creatively play with energy – the energy within you, the energy of love you feel towards another, the energy of a beautiful flower just beginning its bloom as spring arrives. Let that energy nourish you and make you smile. Imagine this joy being contagious. Is it faster than the Coronavirus? Feel your capacity to heal resonate. Who might you share it with first? Who might playfully catch it from you as they pass you on the street? Smile past six feet. What is yours is now becoming ours. Feel the energy of sharing and the energy of healing that is within each of us. Just imagine and feel…
