As we dream across cultures,

wise & wounded,

healing,

across peoples lives,

struggling & inspired,

healing,

across nature,

beautiful in essence & yet experiencing extinction,

every last specie wondering what it means to be alone in this world,

on this day honoring the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.,

it becomes critical to breathe & inspire non-violence as if it were an uncompromising form of adaptation for our survival.

A language, a dream, a message, a feeling,

a gaze anticipating love.

Can we ever get there? …it feels when hatred repeats.

& even if we don't, can humanity be remembered in this way by life that outlives us? …it feels when nature begins to disappear.

Equal rights, rites, rituals, words,

& ways of knowing & being the future,

a non-violent warrior, a healer, we must continue to nurture.

Praise to his great spirit who inspires us to learn to love & live,

yesterday & tomorrow.

Today is also the Pongal harvest festival in South  India for Tamil people, my origin.  To sow and harvest we need the sun and water and all the elements to work together in harmony.  It’s the force of nature that enables us to sow and harvest and again sow our integrity to live.  The sun within rises and sets daily as well, as we learn to heal as a people, as a culture, as a community, as a person.  To awaken to the elements is to have a voice that recognizes love and beauty across all differences, all forms of life.
